Leer en español: Oscars 2022: 5 Movies that Weren’t Nominated for Academy Awards

The Oscar awards have a large number of categories to award. We know that. But the one that really takes all the attention, for which many debate and even the one that has the most candidates is Best Picture. For this 2022 we have 10 nominees again, which have shown the true meaning of art in the film industry , although that does not change the fact that there are others who also deserved to be recognized by the Academy.

It is no secret to anyone that this type of choice is based on a matter of opinion by the members of the jury , who in the end choose their favorites and discard those that they consider are not up to a nomination. However, reality shows that, at least in the eyes of the public and fans, there are other titles that are better than the same candidates and that deserve to fight for an Oscar.

As for the history of those productions that did not have the opportunity to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture, titles such as: "Singin' in the Rain" (1952), "Psycho" (1960), "Back to the Future" (1985 ), "Thelma & Louise" (1991), "Seven" (1995) and even "Matrix" (1999) . Given this, this time we bring you 5 films that did not receive the nomination for the main category of the night either and were ignored by the Academy in 2022.

The Last Duel

Many expected director Ridley Scott to be in contention for an Oscar this year, either for this movie or "House of Gucci," but he had no luck with either. And it is that in this film the dark, cold and foggy landscapes stand out, as well as the bloody battles to give the story a spectacular and realistic atmosphere.

The plot is set in France in 1938 and narrates the confrontation between the knight Jean de Carrouges and the squire Jacques LeGris over an accusation of sexual abuse of the latter with the wife of the former. Faced with such a conflict, King Carlos VI decides that the best way to solve it is with a duel to the death.

C'mon C'mon

Dramas tend to lead the Oscar nominations and for many fans it was an injustice that director Mike Mills' film was left out , especially because of another great performance from Joaquin Phoenix. This sublime and slightly traumatic family history reminds us why productions based on real life are unmissable.

Here we follow the life of Johnny, a radio journalist who must take care of his nephew and for this they both embark on a trip across the country. The purpose of all this is to show young people what life is like away from their hometown and the bubble of privilege where they lived.

Spider-Man: No Way Home

To this day, the 27th film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is very close to entering the top-5 of the highest grossing in the history of cinema . But like "Endgame," "Infinity War" and "Star Wars: Episode VII," the Academy did not include it in the Best Picture category. With all that, the latest Spider-Man film will try to win the Oscar in its only nomination for visual effects.

In these new adventures, Peter Parker asks Doctor Strange for help to create a spell, which will not work and will open the doors of the multiverse as a tragic consequence . With the appearance of villains from other universes, Spider-Man will be helped by two versions of himself to return everything to their timelines and thus avoid worse chaos. Without a doubt, the best movie of Phase 4 of the MCU so far.

The French Dispatch

Many professional critics agree that it is one of director Wes Anderson's most visually outstanding films . And it is that among its ingredients are a stellar cast, meticulously calibrated shots, great cinematography and a soundtrack to remember. In other words, the elaboration of this work is exceptional.

This story is an ode to journalism, and is in fact set in an American newspaper newsroom in a fictional 20th-century French city . With three stories connected to each other, we will follow the latest work of the journalists of a magazine that is about to deliver its last edition before closing permanently.

Biopics in the film industry are increasingly striking and also often generate a sea of feelings in the audience . Chilean director Pablo Larraín presents a masterpiece that shows an empathic and intelligent vision of the prison of fame of a figure who knew how to conquer millions of people around the world: Diana Frances Spencer, Lady Di.

Kristen Stewart's performance is as fragile as it is tender, proving that she is one of today's most versatile actresses and that she is undoubtedly a strong candidate for an Oscar in her category. The plot of "Spencer" takes place in the early 90s, when she recognizes that her marriage to Prince Charles is not working out and therefore she needs a way out of that life she never wanted.
