The famous streaming platform is increasingly positioning itself stronger in the sense of content production. Netflix is making productions in many formats (series, films, documentaries, etc.) and on very varied topics.

Rap, on the other hand, is a fashionable subject. The reflections and the study of this musical genre have taken the small screen and the Netflix productions are not far behind. That is why, on the occasion of the premiere of the second season of Hip-Hop Evolution, we present this list of hip-hop content that you can find on Netflix, some are original and others are acquired by other platforms. In any case, they are a must if you are a fan of the genre.

Hip-Hop Evolution

It is a Canadian documentary series that explores and reflects on the origins and evolution of rap. It makes, in turn, part of a larger series that studies the origins of various musical genres. In this case, the series interviews several of the artists representing the genre, among them the rappers Ice-T, the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, LL Cool J. The series also has information and interviews of producers and industry professionals musical who have worked around the world of hip-hop.

 

 

Unsolved

This series of the Network USA Network gathers different real cases without solving and creates a fiction around them based on the facts of real life. The first season deals with the murders of rappers Tupac and The Notorious BIG, who incarnated one of rap's most famous beefs: The east coast against the west coast.

The series, then, is a fiction in which some detectives decide to solve this case of more than 20 years ago. For this, the series gathers the facts of the real case and dramatizes flashbacks in which the life of the rappers is told a little. The series has just this first season that revolves around this macabre fight that gave so many verses.

The Defiant Ones

Another documentary series, this time original of HBO, is available on Netflix. It's about the story of the alliance and friendship between rapper Dr. Dre and music producer Jimmy Iovine. They tell their musical alliance as well as their professional alliance and their inclusion in other industries.

For this, this miniseries tells the story of each of its protagonists. While narrating the story of Dr. Dre and having interviews with his musical allies such as Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube, this series reviews a bit the history of rap and the rhythms that influenced it. They do not need a presentation with David Letterman

This is a series of interviews with David Letterman. The famous comedian makes a compilation of his best and most personal interviews to great personalities of politics and shows business. The fourth chapter revolves around rapper and music industry tycoon Jay Z. In this interview Jay Z tells Letterman a bit of rap for beginners, that is, he explains concepts such as beat, flow, among others. The rapper, moreover, shares with the comedian some personal episodes of his life and tells his opinions on the state of the industrial and gender today. Finally, they also discuss issues of race and the political scene in the United States. In addition to Jay Z, Letterman interviews other personalities such as Malala Yousafzai, Goerge Clooney, Tina Fey and even Barack Obama himself.

 

 

Rapture

Rapture tells the story and the current state of hip-hop through the narrative of the life of eight icons of the genre. Unlike the other series and documentaries on this list, Rapture has testimonials from artists of the current scene as well as classics. This gives a broader and more enriching perspective on gender and also reflects on the life of these icons, that is, about what we do not see, what is behind the scenes.

Whoever sees it can then know the story of Logic, Nas & Dave East, TI, G-Eazy, 2CHAINZ, Rapsody, Just Blaze and A Boogie with da Hood. The series devotes a chapter to each one. All worthy of a marathon!
