The Colón Theater and the Julio Mario Santo Domingo Theater in Bogotá offer a varied opera program for this 2019 that lovers of this genre can't miss. Music, dance and theater are some of the disciplines that comprise this fascinating artistic expression that has marked the world of the arts for a long time and has fascinated its attendees.

Viaje Barroco (Colón Theater)

With functions on February 1, 2 and 3, the Colombian Fernando Montaño, soloist of the Royal Ballet of London, four singers, and an orchestra will perform. Viaje Barroco deals with two western couples in crisis, which have different social and economic realities, facing the problem that affects the hemispheres of our planet. The staging is a dialogue between opera, dance, and theater. Love is the recurring theme that leads attendees to reflect on the imagination and cultural exchange, current issues in today's world. Madama Butterfly (Julio Mario Santo Domingo Theater)

With the direction of the Argentine Alejandro Chacón in the company of the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra, the famous opera in three acts composed by Giacomo Puccini will be presented on March 13 at eight o'clock at night. It is a story of love and absences with an unexpected and tragic outcome. The story takes place in Nagasaki, Japan at the end of the 19th century. Its main characters are Pinkerton (lieutenant of the Navy) and Cio-Cio-San, also known as Butterfly. The lieutenant has negotiated to marry Butterfly, which is cursed by his uncle Goro when he knows that she had been converted to Christianity. Valeriano Lanchas – baritone, Alejandro Roca – piano (Julio Mario Santo Domingo Theater)

With sole function on May 21, 2019, Valeriano Lanchas, singer of opera and opera music, joins with pianist and director Alejandro Roca to perform "Winterreise", a piece composed of twenty-four poems by Wilhelm Müller and composed in the year 1827 by Franz Schubert for piano and baritone. The two Colombian artists are in the same stage to offer the audience this complete cycle of songs, a monodrama of an hour and twenty minutes that has challenged since the nineteenth century the technical skills and expression of musicians.
