Vaccines

After 4 to 6 weeks of birth, it is necessary to give the vaccines to the puppy to prevent viral and bacterial diseases. According to the doctor, vaccines are "to protect against diseases caused by viruses are parvovirus, coronavirosis, distemper, canine infectious hepatitis, parainfluenza, rabies and kennel cough; and against bacterial diseases such as leptospirosis".

In addition, the veterinarian will determine the vaccination schedule needed by the puppy depending on the health risk to which the animal is exposed, in order to determine the vaccination interval. This is usually between 15 and 20 days. Do not forget that "Each year you should vaccinate pets against the same diseases in a single dose".

Feeding

Vaccination is not the only thing you should give your puppy to be healthy, you must also take care of their food. As Dr. Liliana assures us, "the puppy must be well fed, healthy and previously dewormed to ensure a better response of the immune system to the vaccine. It is important to know that vaccines prevent but don't cure and that being chemical substances can generate side reactions such as fever, decay, allergy, lack of appetite and / or pain at the injection site".

You also have to look at the type of food you give your young pet, since not all breeds or sizes require the same amount or class. "The food can be the concentrate manufactured by the commercial houses, which is classified according to the size of the pet (large, medium or small breeds) or the current trend, which is the BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) food to be purchased only to certified companies with good management of the cold chain; and advice to choose if it should be raw or cooked", recommends the doctor.

Regarding the variables that you must take into account to feed it, Dr. Liliana explains that "the amount of food a day, depends on the age, the weight of the puppy and the brand of the concentrate; usually the backing of the packages is the dosage table or ask the veterinarian. The food ration should be adjusted according to the puppy's growth. " He also reminded us that the puppy should be fed three times a day and leave enough water available for him to hydrate.

Other care

Finally, the doctor told us about other care that are also important apart from food and vaccines: "During the vaccination period, you should avoid taking the puppy to public places like parks, join it with other animals or bathe it."

So, you know what your new puppy needs to grow into a healthy and vigorous dog.
