Every day the world reports new cases of coronavirus infections. In Europe, Italy, Spain and France have been the countries where the highest number of affected and deaths have reported, making it difficult to restore life as we knew it.

Meanwhile, several soccer players, stopped by the cancellations of the main leagues of this sport, have decided to contribute a grain of sand to try to combat this dangerous virus. Here are some of them.

1. Lionel Messi

The Barcelona striker, figure of the Argentine team and winner of six golden balls decided to make a donation of one million euros to fight against Covid-19. In this way, half the amount was donated to the Barcelona Clinic, an entity that thanked the footballer through his Twitter account. The remaining half was donated to "a medical center in Argentina," according to Mundo Deportivo.

 

2. Cristiano Ronaldo

The Juventus star, winner of five golden balls and star of the Portuguese national team, also decided to make a donation of one million euros. With this amount the Portuguese helped finance two intensive care units belonging to the Hospital of Santa María in Lisbon, while fighting the virus. As revealed by CNN, the two units can serve up to 20 patients and will receive the name of "Ronaldo and Mendes", the latter is the soccer player's representative who also decided to contribute.

In addition, the pair also decided to donate five ventilators to the Madeira Regional Health Service, where the Portuguese is from. Finally, Ronaldo asked his club, Juventus, to reduce his salary in order to cover the salary of the team's workers.

3. James Rodriguez

The Colombian striker may be going through a difficult streak as he does not have much presence at Real Madrid, given that injuries and the relationship with Zidane have not let him shine within the team.

Well, the Colombian who is undergoing quarantine in Spain, decided to make a donation through the Colombia Somos Todos foundation to his hometown of Ibagué. In this way, 350 protective suits, 10 biological risk masks and 1,380 masks were delivered to the city hospital, Federico Lleras Acosta. He also donated 150 food kits to the mayor's office and another three to the Red Cross to be delivered to vulnerable populations.

4. Robert Lewandowski

The Polish footballer, communicated through his social networks the donation of a million euros to support the cause in Germany. In the Instagram post, the striker comes out in the company of his wife, Anna, highlighting the importance of following the experts' recommendations.

5. Andrés Iniesta

The Spanish footballer, who is currently playing for the Japanese team Vissel Kobe, joined the wave of footballers and also made a donation. Although the amount is not yet known, according to the Spanish media La Sexta, the striker donated both to Catalan and Madrid Health.

In addition, the footballer joined the campaign created by Rafael Nadal and Pau Gasol, where with the help of several Spanish athletes, they intend to raise 11 million euros against the coronavirus.
