“Matarife”, the controversial documentary series

The journalist and lawyer Daniel Mendoza launched a series that promises to reveal the entire criminal history of former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Vélez

Throughout history, there have been characters that have left their mark on humanity. This is the case of Álvaro Uribe Vélez. A Colombian lawyer and politician, who has marked the country's history throughout his political career. Since he became mayor in the city of Medellín in 1982; through his presidential government in the periods from 2002 to 2010 and his current position as senator for the Democratic Center party; he has left an infinite number of disappointments in many Colombians.

Well, based on various reports presented by entities such as the Supreme Court of Justice, the current senator Uribe, has approximately 30 investigative processes, for various crimes that are related to espionage in campaigns, massacres, drug trafficking, and links with paramilitarism.

"Matarife, an unspeakable genocide"

There are so many complaints that Álvaro Uribe Vélez has received throughout his political career, that a journalist, lawyer, and criminologist Daniel Mendoza, decided to create an audiovisual project called "Matarife", which is the name given to a person who has the trade to kill and butcher livestock for consumption. The purpose of this series is to reveal the entire criminal history of this political character: "Álvaro Uribe, has built up a very politically powerful criminal corporation over the past 30 years." This was stated by the journalist Mendoza during an interview for the youtuber Levy Rincón.

The documentary series is supported by historical archive images and consists of 50 chapters; each one has an approximate time of 3 to 6 minutes. In addition, the journalist Mendoza has had the collaboration of several entities, since the series was developed with the support of NGOs from Australia, the United States and Colombia. Also, it has the participation of Spanish collaborators, Mexican collaborators, and the media, La Nueva Prensa.

Finally, on May 22, the first chapter called “The grenade that activated the elite” was released, through WhatsApp, Telegram, Twitter and YouTube. And as a result of the first chapter and the trailer of the same series, millions of netizens have spoken who expressed great approval of this audiovisual project.

 

A series that has given much to talk about

Despite the fact that journalist Mendoza had to rush the launch of the series "Matarife, an unnamed genocide" due to threats against him , there have been several pronouncements that have been raised in favor and against this documentary project.

According to the statements of the nation's attorney general, Francisco Barbosa, the journalist Daniel could be committing a crime of slander: "No one can be charged with crimes, if there is no judicial conviction." He claimed.

However, although there have been several criticisms of this series, the positive reception is greater. So much so, that after 45 minutes of the premiere of the first episode, the video already had more than 100,000 likes on the YouTube platform and 154,000 followers on a recent Twitter account. Now, netizens are still waiting to see the next chapters, which will be broadcast on their different social networks, especially via WhatsApp, so that anyone has easy access to this controversial documentary series.
