During the health crisis that has stopped the world this year, all industries, including entertainment, have had to think of new ways to exist, work, and generate income. This month the quarantine has decreased and the exceptions to leave home are more and more. Some leisure activities have been resumed. Among them, the film industry has tried to devise ways to continue operating at the same rate. Streaming services have exploded since the beginning of confinement, as they have become indispensable for home entertainment. Many movie theaters, which were forced to close to avoid conglomerations of more than ten people, have also launched their own streaming services and during this month they have considered returning as drive-in theaters or by removing some chairs from the theaters, so the box office would be smaller and fewer people would share space.

However, the release schedule for the summer has been out of place and delayed due to the fact that in many cases the success or failure of several films depends on the box office, which in any case (drive-in or theaters ) would be reduced by a great percentage. These are three film events that have been postponed by their producers.

Although it may seem a little too soon for the postponement of one of the biggest film events, the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences should keep the release dates of the box office, independent and feature film films in mind for their screening times. Due to the health crisis, the Academy considered it fair to extend the deadline so that directors and producers can release their films on time and qualify for the selection process. In this way, the premiere term of the films that enter the competition was extended from December 31, 2020 to February 28, 2021 and the ceremony, normally held in January, will take place in April 2021.

Wonder Woman, 1984 postpones its release

Without a doubt, the summer, which is already beginning, is the best time to premiere the highest-grossing films and, above all, the superhero franchise films. The Wonder Woman sequel, starring Gal Gadot, was initially to be released on June 5 of this year. It had a delay that postponed its premiere for August 14 and now it is postponed for the second time for October 2 of this year. The first film grossed $ 822 million at the box office, so it is known that this production depends mainly on its release date and on the money from movie theaters.

This is a premiere that still looks far away. Matrix 4, still in its filming phase, was scheduled to be released on May 21, 2021. Due to the health crisis, Warner Bros. was forced to stop all its filming, so Matrix 4 has been delayed during these months, which is why the producer decided to give a much wider margin for the completion of the shooting and post-production of the film. Hoping to resume filming next month, The Matrix was slated to premiere in April 2022.

Other films hold their release dates such as Disney's Mulan and Christopher Nolan's new Tenet, which may be the first Hollywood movies we see in theaters after these months of confinement.
