Leer en español: Todo lo que sabemos de la sexta temporada de The Crown

A little over five months ago, Netflix had announced that season five of The Crown would be the last in this successful series that follows the Royal Family since the coronation of the current queen, Elizabeth II. This Thursday, however, it was announced through their Twitter account that there has been a change of plans: there will be a sixth season, with which the series will run until the 2000s, so you will see various events with which today's public is perhaps most familiar.

The creator of the series, Pete Morgan , has stated that this change in plans is due to a desire to do justice to the richness and complexity of the history of the Royal Family, which can shed light on current events and with which they could explain, for example, the departure of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle from that family. This, however, would only be a reading of the series, since, Morgan has clarified that not because it is longer, it will narrate the events to date, it will cover the same period of time that had been planned, but in more detail.

Thus, the series will span the history of the Royal Family until the early years of the 2000s. This, it is worth noting, was the initial and original plan for the series: six seasons and embracing that amount of time. Netflix had shortened the story but, says Morgan, already planning the narrative lines of the series, it became necessary to resume the initial script.

Neflix has clarified in their tweet that this will be the final season of the acclaimed series.

What is The Crown about?

The first three seasons are available on Netflix and the fourth was finishing filming in March of this year, just before the UK was to remain in quarantine. This fourth season is expected to be released later this year. In it, the Oscar winner, Olivia Colman, plays Queen Elizabeth II. In the best style of Peter Morgan, who has previously completely changed the cast of the series to mark the change of era, another actress will have the honor of playing the queen in seasons five and six: Imelda Staunton.

Currently, viewers have seen a young Prince Charles fall in love with a young Camilla. It is expected that in the fourth season we will already see Princess Diana. As stated before, the series will not extend the period of time stories will be told: we will see the Royal Family enter the 21st century. It is speculated, then, that there will be more detail in the story of Carlos and Diana.
