Leer en español: Alejo y Valentina, la serie de Internet que revivió

Alejo and Valentina is synonymous with the Internet. Recently, the Impulso Negocios website highlighted that "Argentina's cult animation series" returned with a new streaming season. In other words, it will be the fifth season of the series created by Alejandro Szykula and which was a "boom" in the digital age.

This new edition, according to the Page 12 media, will be broadcast exclusively through Flixxo, a new platform that pays you in cryptocurrency to watch series. In other words, we are seeing a revolution in the way of consuming content, which is being applied in a story that also marked a before and after in Latin American animation.

Therefore, we decided to review a little the history, the success and the current situation of this nice and comical story, which involved the first “boom” of youtubers, but also of a generation in Latin America that grew up with very catchy phrases and a limited but distinctive animation style.

The success of Alejo and Valentina

The MDP Capital page highlights that this new stage will continue the adventures of the leading couple in the fictional city of Papapipa, after being part of the free Flixxo platform. In other words, we will meet again the most iconic characters in this entire story, such as Carlitox, the Old Man with the cane or Matías.

What is really curious is that this series, created by comedian Alejandro Szykula, was a real success on the Internet. In other words, it was one of the first digital creations that gained momentum from the viralization that occurred in LoCoARTS, a website that allowed the insertion of animations created by Macromedia Flash and that caused a sensation in all visitors.

According to what the Pronto Magazine reports, the first broadcast was in 2002. The mastermind behind this story is Alejandro Szykula , who understood that, through simple animations, but with very funny voices and stories, he could replicate some of the things that he lived in his childhood or that he simply saw in Argentine society.

Even, at the time, the El Espectacular medium highlighted that this animation series that belongs to the “new era” of the Internet was about to be part of VideoMatch, a humorous television program hosted by Marcelo Tinelli. However, the negotiations did not succeed… although its success continued to grow.

The DataCraft website highlights that this person never thought that his ideas would go so viral, since, at first, the characters were a representation of the relationship he had with his girlfriend,  she was his only audience. However, by 2005, his website had an average of 30,000 daily visits, in addition to all the videos that were shared by the infrared of cell phones.

Therefore, this story had two seasons on the Internet, achieving a very important success not only on a national scale, but also on the continent. It is at that time that the MTV company decided to take an interest in this story and decided to commission 13 new episodes for the year 2005.

The intention was to be able to expand even more towards Latin America, since it was positioned as the “Latin American South Park”. This is why the chapters were broadcast late at night on MTV, achieving enormous success among the continent's public, through episodes of approximately 25 minutes that had many references to cultural products, such as Dragon Ball, Doctor House or Saving Private Ryan.

However, after several years of success, in 2010 they decided to take a short break from this story and it stopped airing as an MTV cycle. The BiobioChile website made reference to the fact that, after a while, the series “revived from the trunk of Internet memories”, something that the generation of millennials would appreciate, since it was part of the childhood and adolescence of many of them.

Therefore, we can already see many of the stories of these charismatic characters drawn in "Paint" format, with a very characteristic and absurd style of humor, having some phrases that were part of popular culture. Will it be as successful as in the past?
