Colombia's FARC rebels should have all their weapons turned over by June after almost 7000 of them reached demobilisation zones across the country.

Around 300 fighters from Colombia's Marxist FARC rebels will not demobilize under a peace deal, a military commander said, giving the first official figure of guerrillas who may join with crime gangs seeking control of lucrative rebel drug territory.

On February 7, two months after signing a peace agreement with the FARC guerrillas, the Colombian government begins formal negotiations with the country’s second-largest guerrilla group, the National Liberation Army, or ELN.

Members of Colombia's ELN left-wing rebel group and government negotiators have begun talks seeking to end more than five decades of conflict.

The town’s name is Spanish for “peace.” The days to come will test how accurate that is.
