The tournament that brings together some of the best tennis players will start on September 15th. Belgium vs Australia and France vs Serbia are the most important matches since the winners will be the finalist of the competition.
However, some other countries will have their own important matches. The Latin-American countries will have important meets in the hopes to keep on being part of the event or to simply enter into the World Group.
The cafeteros will face Croatia in the Plaza de Toros La Santamaría in Bogotá, Colombia. The Europeans are the crowd’s favorite after being finalist in 2016. Marin Cilic, 15th in the singles ranking, is the most important player of Croatia. Meanwhile, Colombia hopes to win some Single games and define the winner with their Doubles players: Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah, 23rd and 27th in the doubles ranking. This will be the first time these two countries face each other.
The team of Diego Schwartzman and Guido Pella (28th and 73rd) will visit the Japanese selection. Despite the absence of Juan Martín del Potro, the Argentine team is the favorite and it is hoped that they maintain their place in the World Group. These two countries already have faced each other back in 2011 with a victory for the “gauchos”.
The cariocas traveled the world to face the Japanese team, who has the best single player (Yuichi Sugita, No. 42nd) and the South Americans have the best double duo: Marcelo Melo (3rd) and Bruno Soares (12th). The games will be in the Utsubo Tennis Center in Osaka, Japan.
Peru vs Dominican Republic:
In the American group, the Caribbean country will receive the Incas in the Parque Del Este Tennis Center in Santo Domingo. Whoever loses will be relegated to Group 2 of the Americas. In the only two different occasions, these teams have faced each other; the South Americans delegates won both. However, Dominicans have better ranked players and hope Victor Estrella (79th) and José Hernández (341st) will win against Juan Pablo Varillas (423rd) and Mauricio Echazú (757th).
Barbados vs Venezuela:
In Group 2, Venezuela and Barbados will decide who plays in the first group. The islanders have Darian King (156th), their best option. But the Venezuelans hope that Ricardo Rodríguez (817th) will have a good performance.
