It is assumed that preseason is useful for the managing team to evaluate the different abilities of the newly arrived players, as well as the different alignments that the team may have. It is also an opportunity for a closer interaction with international fans, because in cases such as Real Madrid, Juventus, among others, they take advantage of the preseason to travel to other countries.

However, even though the matches played are only friendly, they also represent a risk for the players' health. That is the case of the players that we present you here, who have not only been injured in the preseason but are also likely to miss part of the matches in their corresponding leagues.
Real Madrid
Yes. We started this list with the Spanish team, as five of its players had injuries so far this preseason. The first to get injured was the left winger, Brahim Día, who suffered a thigh injury on July 13. Although Real Madrid has not given a specific date for his return, Díaz will not be able to show his potential against Zidane or look for one of the 25 spots that the French have to register for the next Champions League.
The second injured of the team is the extreme left Marco Asencio, who suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus of his left knee. According to the club's medical report, Asencio will be operated in the next few days and is expected to be off for a couple of months.
The third player that joined the list is Ferland Merly. The left side suffered a muscle injury in the anterior rectus of the right thigh. The fourth was the central striker Luka Jovik, who had a left ankle injury after 30 minutes in the game against Atlético de Madrid. The injury occurred "after a hard blow against the Atletico goalkeeper Oblak," as the Soy Futbol portal recalls. As a result, the Serbian player was not summoned for the Audi Cup.
Finally, the one who had been a starting goalkeeper last season and Zidane's favorite, Thibaut Courtois, suffered a second-degree sprain in his left ankle. According to the Depor portal, Courtois could miss “the debut of the team in La Liga de España”, since its recovery is expected to take between two to three weeks.

Ryan Shawcross
The Stoke City defender suffered a strong injury in the Premier League preseason game against Leicester City. As SkySports explains, "the left ankle of the central defender seemed to be trapped in the grass and bent back when he kicked the ball in front of Leicester midfielder Marc Albrighton."
According to official sources, Shawcross has already received an operation on his ankle and addressed his fans through an official statement on the official website of the club: “(…) it has been a difficult few days, but with the help and the support of so many people, I am now looking forward with real optimism as I embark upon my road to recovery, which will enable me to get back out there doing what I love on the pitch", Shawcross is expected to return to the club in 2020.

Eric Bailly
Manchester United's central defender suffered a knee injury while playing a game against Tottenham in the "International Champions Cup". Bailly received an operation in recent days and through an official statement the team confirmed that he will be on leave "for 4 to 5 months."
Following his injury, Manchester will have to accelerate the signing of Leicester defender Harry Maguire, "to reinforce his defense," according to Marca.
Nathaniel Clyne
Liverpool's right winger suffered a painful injury in his right knee. According to the medical report of the team, Clyne presented an internal lateral ligament rupture, which occurred in the friendly preseason game against Borussia Dortmund in Indiana (United States). Due to the seriousness of his injury, the player is expected to be off for at least six months.
Theo Hernández
The former French Real Madrid had a very rugged debut in his premiere with Milan. Hernandez had to be replaced in the 45th minute, after a hard tackle from Bayern player Benjamin Pavard in the game for the 2019 International Champions Cup. Through a statement, AC Milan confirmed that the defender suffers from an injury in the ligaments of his right ankle, in addition to announcing that in the coming weeks more studies will be done.
