The theme of this year's International Women's Day (March 8) is “I am Generation Equality: realizing women´s rights”. According to UN women, this campaign aims to bring together people of all genders, ages, ethnic backgrounds, races, religions, and countries, to promote actions that create the equal world we deserve.
Some of the topics include eliminating gender violence; demanding economic justice and rights for all people; autonomy over our own bodies, right to sexual and reproductive health; and feminist actions for climate justice. Also, technology and innovation for gender equality and feminist leadership are on the agenda.
In order to create awareness, Netflix and UN women partnered to launch the "Because She Watched" collection, which includes 55 TV shows, movies, and documentaries curated by women from all over the world.

“This collaboration is about taking on the challenge of telling women’s stories and showing women in all their diversity. It’s about making visible the invisible, and proving that only by fully representing and including women on screen, behind-the-camera and in our narratives overall, society will truly flourish", said Anita Bhatia, UN Women Deputy Executive Director.
As read on El Tiempo, the titles included in the "Because She Watched" collection were selected because, according to Netflix, they have initiated important and often difficult conversations about women and their situation in the world. According to El Imparcial, the contents of this collection have been selected by 55 women known for their feminist inspiration from the entertainment world, including, for example, Sophia Loren, Millie Bobby Brown or Ava DuVernay.
Latin women, such as the Mexican Salma Hayek, Yalitza Aparicio and Cecilia Suárez; the Spanish Esther Acebo and Mina El Hammani; Brazil's Petra Costa; the Chilean Paulina García; Argentina's Lali Espósito; or the Colombian Alejandra Azcárate, have also participated.
Viewers can watch films, shows and documentaries included in the collection by either searching "Because She Watched" on their Netflix platform or by visiting Netflix.com/BecauseSheWatched. Each title will include the name of the curator who selected it.
