The Directors' Fortnight is a parallel section to the Cannes’ festival. Cristina Gallego, producer of Pájaros de Verano, explains that this section is looking at the work of women in different creative roles of cinema such as: direction, acting and writing.
Written by María Camila Arias and Jacques Toulemonde, the film features the participation of television actress Natalia Reyes, the theater actress Carmiña Martínez and the debut of José Acosta, along with natural actors.
This production had the support of Caracol Television and Dago García Producciones, it was filmed in locations in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta and in the department of La Guajira, Colombia, for nine weeks.
The story focuses on the time of the so-called Bonanza Marimbera, as the boom in the cultivation and sale of Colombian marijuana to the United States was known. The story is told from the perspective of a Wayuu family in La Guajira, who is living the aftermath of the growth of this business. "Their culture, their traditions and their lives will be threatened by a war between brothers whose consequences will be felt by the whole world," says the synopsis.
