Leer en español: Series canceladas en 2022 por Netflix y otras plataformas de streaming

It is not easy to say goodbye to a series, especially if it was able to keep us glued to the screen for a long time. However, as we all know, the fact that it catches our attention or if its season finale remains in a "to be continued" does not mean that we will see more episodes of it in the future. In the end, that decision to cancel them ends up leaving a bad taste in viewers' mouths, no matter what streaming platform is broadcasting it.

Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, in addition to other television networks, have had a 2022 full of good productions. However, the other side of the coin shows us that several series were disappointing to the point of being cancelled, either due to the low audience rating or because they did not fit into the plans of the streaming platform or chain responsible for its transmission. Good decision or too hasty?

These types of sentences can be as abrupt as they are controversial and always leave the same scenario: orphaned fans of the series. And it is that unlike these cases, throughout the year we also witnessed how titles such as "The Walking Dead", "Better Call Saul", "This is Us" and "Peaky Blinders" were said goodbye in style. Be that as it may, saying goodbye is difficult enough, and when it comes to cancellations it is even more so.

Netflix, pioneer of cancellations?

For both good and bad, Netflix is the streaming platform par excellence. The list of canceled series is one of the most extensive in 2022, regardless of the number of seasons they had or if they received good reviews. Precisely, "Archivo 81" stands out in that last line, since the terror that it gave us at the beginning of the year was left with an ending that promised -at least- another eight more episodes.

In turn, the adaptation of "Resident Evil" navigated among divided critics. The story that followed the Wesker sisters did not convince enough in its eight episodes and in the end Netflix listened more to the negative reviews. Similarly, the first season of "First Kill", one of the LGTB+ series on the platform, did not have the support of the managers either, despite having a good fan base.

As of the publication date of this article, the streaming giant has canceled just over 15 series, some more popular than others. The black list is completed by: "Another Life", "The Baby-Sitters Club", "Bonding", "Cooking With Paris", "Fate: The Winx Saga", "Gentefied", "Julie and the Phantoms", "Pretty Smart", "Q-Force", "Queens" and "Raising Dion".

Radical decisions for HBO

Under the premise that "quality is what matters", the merger of HBO Max with Discovery Plus has resulted in the cancellation of series and the removal of films from its catalog. There are already projects that will not officially see the light again, while others are endangering their continuity on the platform and will have to wait for the new restructuring measures of Warner Bros. Discovery.

The last to get the bad news was "Westworld", one of HBO's most acclaimed productions at the time. But although its first season was a success, it must be recognized that the next three failed to generate the same emotion in the viewers. Also, "Raised by Wolves", another sci-fi drama, featured an interesting plot that only ran for 18 episodes in two seasons.

On the other hand, productions set in the DC Cinematic Universe are not having a good time with WBD's decisions. To the unexpected unreleased cancellation of "Batgirl" we must add the series "Batwoman", "Stargirl" and "Legends of Tomorrow", with three and seven seasons respectively. Finally, the list closes (so far) with "Betty", "Gentleman Jack", "High Maintenance", "Made for Love", "Gordita Chronicles", and "The Time Traveler's Wife".

More series on the blacklist

Amazon Prime Video is another of the most consumed streaming platforms worldwide. With everything and that, some of its original series could not avoid an abrupt end. Based on the 90s film, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" did not show the terror that many expected, despite having initially generated many expectations. Other titles that will not have a second season are "As We See It", "Night Sky" and "Paper Girls". While "The Wilds" and "Jack Ryan" were canceled after two and four seasons, respectively.

In turn, television services and networks such as the CW and Peacock had the particularity of canceling several of their reboot series. The reason? Very little interest from the audience. Titles include "Saved by the Bell," "Roswell, New Mexico," "Charmed," "Dynasty," "Queer as Folk," and "4400." While on the side of the spin-offs "Legacies" appears, after 68 episodes in four seasons.

Finally, other titles also appear on the list such as "Promised Land" and "Queens", from ABC; "The Big Leap," "Our Kind of People" and "Pivoting" from FOX; "The Endgame," "Kenan," "Mr. Mayor" and "Ordinary Joe" on NBC; "United States of Al", "How We Roll", "Good Sam", "Clarice", "Bull" and "B Positive" on CBS. Until now Paramount+, Hulu, Disney + and Apple TV have not officially confirmed the cancellation of any of the series.
