The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) published a ranking with the best football teams in Latin America in 2023. This list gave a lot to talk about since it was released to the public, since, for the most part, the clubs that appearing in this are Brazilian.
It is no secret to anyone that the Brazilian teams are currently leading the continent. Their high investments and the quality of their youth academies are two crucial qualities for the outstanding moment that football is experiencing in this country. Given this, six of the ten teams named in this ranking are part of the Brasileirao, a competition that is the most important in Latin America in recent years.
Surprisingly, for the IFFHS, Argentine teams such as Boca Juniors and River Plate are currently not part of the top 10 of the best clubs on the continent, an aspect that raised a lot of commotion against this ranking, recalling the history of these two teams. In addition to this, we must highlight the work that Independiente del Valle has been doing, an Ecuadorian squad that in a few years has reached the highest positions in Latin America.
For its part, Millonarios is the only Colombian team that appears in this ranking, recognition that has not been given for several years. The team of Bogotá, surpassed last year's Colombian tournament champions: Atlético Nacional and Deportivo Pereira.
