Lilibeth Chacón: the new promise of Venezuelan cycling?
The rider will be the only native of the Caribbean country to be part of a European professional team
The history of Venezuelan cycling continues to grow. Despite the difficulties encountered by the riders of this nation positioning themselves within the European professional circuit, a young woman has begun to open the path. Her name is Lilibeth Chacon, a Tachira native, who after being a real figure in the Colombian cycling, made the leap to Europe.
The 26 – year – old athlete was hired recently by the Italian professional team Michela Faninni, one of the most traditional teams in this nation. Chacon will be in the team this 2018 disputing the best competitions of the professional circuit, including the female Giro de Italia, test that Lilibeth will have between eyebrow.
"Thankful to God for so many blessings. I am very happy to return to Europe with Michela Faninni. Glad because they have taken me IGNORE INTO account and I hope not to disappoint them this season. The goal is to prepare myself for the Giro that runs in the month of April, and show what I’m really made of", said the cyclist in telephone contact for Latinamericanpost.
Reward to her Effort
It should be noted that the cyclist could be hired by the European club, after her extraordinary two-year stint in the demanding Colombian national calendar running with the Cycling Girl team. In this team, he was not only twice podium of the Tour of Colombia and the Women's Tour, but also won stages and crowned the classifications for mountain points. Chacon became the hardest nut to crack of the Colombian champion Ana Cristina Sanabria, with whom she fought epic cycling battles in search of supremacy.
"It was very good what I got in Colombia with the Cycling, where I also hope to continue competing in the last stage of the season. Without a doubt, that success helped me to make this new leap to Europe this time in Italy, which I consider a personal challenge, since a few years ago I came with the Spanish Bisakia-Durango team in which I could not have the performance I expected. However, this time it will be very different because I bring much more experience with me ".
An excellent athlete
Chacon is born in the town of El Pinal, on the Colombian-Venezuelan border, also known as "the Rujano", especially for its small size and conditions to climb the mountain. This region is famous for being "Andean Condor ".
It is worth noting that the race of the cyclist has been plagued by triumphs during the recent past, not only because of what she has achieved on Latin American soil, but because she is the current national time trial champion, Bolivarian road champion, third of the Return to Costa Rica and also Bolivarian monarch of the individual pursuit on the track. These recognitions make her a true portent within the discipline.
"Hopefully things will work out in the best way. The goal is to continue to demonstrate my growth as an athlete in this new challenge. I hope that I can have a great performance for all my people in Venezuela and Colombia that both encourage me".
Therefore, for now we just have to wait for the official debut of the Venezuelan cyclist, which is scheduled between February 22 and 25, when she is participating in the Cycling Week in Valencia, Spain. Subsequently, Chacon will return to Italy to run the Strade Bianche in Siena at the beginning of March, proof that the official work will begin before the Giro d'Italia.
