Latin America: The imposing Inca Challenge is coming
The desert stretches of Peru will be the scene of the demanding competition, which will serve as preparation for the 2019 Dakar Rally
Desafío Inca, a competition that belongs to the Dakar Series, will be one of the most demanding routes of motor sport. Peru is the venue for this event since its creation in 2013, and this year will continue with the Ica desert as the epicenter of the competition.

"The region of Ica, on which the province of Pisco depends administratively, proposes rather majestic extensions that the Dakar simply perceived: its territory, which extends over more than 21,000 km2, a surface that approximates, for example, that of Belgium, the desert imposes its rigor and its beauty on the cities it reaches, "says the Inca Challenge on its official website.
The 2018 edition of the event will be held from September 14 to 16, will consist of three stages with almost 1000 kilometers timed and is mainly developed in preparation for the 2019 Dakar Rally , which will be played for the first time in history in a single country: Peru .
"The Inca Challenge 2018 Dakar Series represents a unique opportunity for competitors to test their vehicle and to face, for the last time before the 2019 Dakar, the dunes of the Ica desert. Which pilots will be present in the Inca Challenge?
Pilots from around the world who will attend the demanding event in the desert of Ica, Peru, and will compete in five categories :
- Cars
- Motorcycles
- Quads
- Side by Side
- Trucks
"It is a very demanding competition that we respect and where we should train for the next objectives of a Dakar. It is a fascinating desert, with an impressive culture and affection of our Peruvian friends", says the Ecuadorian pilot Emiliano Fuenzalida.

- The Argentines Franco Caimi, Luciano Benavides, Pablo Copetti, and Kevin Benavides
- The Chilean Pablo Quintanilla
- The North American Andrew Short
- The Spanish Oriol Mena, Laia Sanz, and Joan Barreda
- The Portuguese Paulo Gonçalves and Joaquim Rodrigues
- The Hindu CS Santosh
- The French Xavier de Soultrait and Adrien Van Beveren
- The Peruvians Francisco "Pacho" de León, Renzo Corno and Gianna Velarde
High level
Inca Challenge (Desafío Inca) will have a high competitive level, as the winners of the last three Dakar: the Austrian Matthias Walkner, the Englishman Sam Sunderland, and the Australian Toby Price will also be in Peru to deploy all their talent and all their expertise to command the different machines. According to Marca Peru, this demanding competition will also have the honorable presence of Peruvian co-driver Lucas Barrón, who will become the first runner with Down syndrome to be part of the Inca Challenge.

The competition will have as a great attraction the professional development of the organizers of the Dakar, who offer all the conditions, spaces and accompaniment to the pilots to guarantee an event of the highest quality and with their own seal, making the Inca Challenge in Peru one of the most recognized competitions worldwide.
