Discover all about the 'International Surrealism Now' art exhibition

On November 17, the largest exhibition of surrealist art in the world, entitled "International Surrealism Now", will be held at the POROS multimedia museum in Coimbra, Portugal. The project is presented by the Portuguese artist Santiago Ribeiro, who has dedicated himself to promoting this avant-garde movement in the 21st century, since 2010.

It was in that year when the exhibition was born, and exhibitions were held in different parts of the world such as: Berlin, Moscow, Dallas, Los Angeles, Mississippi, Warsaw, Nantes, Paris, Florence, Madrid, Granada, Barcelona, Lisbon, Monte Negro, Romania, Japan, Taiwan and Brazil.

Surrealism emerged in the years after the First World War and is not limited only to the world of plastic arts, as it had influence in other artistic fields such as film and literature.

Also, aims to bring art to the world of dreams, visions and subconscious trying to keep the painting away from the rational, exposing the psychoanalysis of Freud. In this exhibition, not only will this avant-garde be appreciated, but also abstract art, fantastic realism and visionary art.

In addition, he has done all the advertising with his colorful pieces, exposing them for three full minutes randomly in the Time Square of New York to reach as many people as possible. The above, with the aim of promoting the largest group exhibition enough time for the thousands of pedestrians who travel to this emblematic place to appreciate their art.

At the moment, the exhibition has artists from 48 countries, of which more than ten are Latin American, among them are:

  • Venezuela with artists Alvaro Mejias and Efrat Cybulkiewicz
  • Argentina with Ruben Cukier and Jay Paul Vonkoffler
  • Cuba represented by Carlos Sablón and Naiker Roman
  • From Mexico Héctor Pineda
  • From Chile Pedro Diaz Cartes
  • The Colombian representative, Héctor Toro
  • The Peruvian Russbelt Guerra
  • The Brazilians Sônia Menna Barreto and Nazareno Stanislau

The meeting will involve artists with disciplines such as drawing, painting, photography, digital art and sculpture.
