Around 1985, Mercury began a long-term relationship with a hairdresser named Jim Hutton who, five years later in 1990, discovered that he was a carrier of the HIV virus and lived with Mercury for the last six years of his life. Later, on January 1, 2010, Hutton died of lung cancer.

After the death of Mercury because of this disease, the question is: What are the actions that are being carried out in the fight against the disease?

According to data from this organization, in 2017, 36.9 million is the number of people living with the disease, of which 21.7 million people live with antiretroviral treatment and 1.8 million new infections are registered.

Thanks to the collection, analysis and dissemination of the data, it has been possible to contribute to the programs reaching people at the right places and times. There are several actions that the organization carries out, among these are 90-90-90: Treatment for all, The H6 Association, Security and humanitarian affairs, Prevention of HIV and Tuberculosis.

In 2017, three out of four people living with HIV were aware of their status and only four out of five had access to treatment and 47% of all people living with HIV had an undetectable viral load

UNAIDS estimates that US $ 26.2 billion is needed for the AIDS response in 2020. It has been several years since the death of Mercury and the cure for this disease has not yet been found, there have been some approaches but not a complete eradication of this pathology. It is hoped that in the future the solution to this can be found in order to put an end to the epidemic.
