Bebe Rexha at the Grammy: is fashion inclusive?

Bebe Rexha is a New Albanian singer of Albanian origin who has been behind many hits like Eminem's "The Monster" with Rihanna, and who last year released her first solo album, Expectations. The artist is nominated in two categories of the Grammy Awards: Best New Artist and Best Performance in Duet or Group of a country song for her song "Meant To Be", in which she collaborates with Florida Georgia Line.

However, the 29-year-old artist does not have now what to wear for the Grammy Awards ceremony, which will be held this month, because, according to her complaints on social networks, several designers have turned their backs on her for being "too big".

The singer uploaded to her Instagram and Twitter account a video in which she talked about how the gratitude and happiness she felt for having been finally nominated for the Grammys, was now overshadowed by the indignation caused by the designers who are so 'narrow-minded and retriggered'.

She says in the video that her team contacted several designers and that many said she was very big and said that "if a size of 4 to 6 is very big … I do not know what to tell you, then I do not want to wear your damn dress "

The video is accompanied in both cases by a caption that says: "I'm sorry, I had to get this off my chest. If you don't like my fashion style or my music that's one thing. But don't say you can't dress someone that isn't a runway size. Empower women to love their bodies instead of making girls and women feel less by their size- We are beautiful any size! Small or large! Andddd My size 8 ass is still going to the Grammys #LOVEYOURBODY".

A schizophrenic industry

Bebe Rexha is outraged not only by the lack of collaboration she has received from the designers, but by the message that this gives to women. "They're telling us that any woman size 6 or more is not beautiful enough to wear their dresses", she says in the video. It is curious that this scandal is unleashed right now, at a time when the fashion industry is changing and is inviting more and more models of different races, shapes, sizes and genres to model by the catwalks.

Bebe Rexha never says or specifies who designers is she referring to, she just says "great designers". In that way, if really big fashion houses have rejected her, it seems that there is still much to be done in the way of inclusive fashion and that perhaps this has been seen on the catwalks but not yet in life practice, which makes the fashion industry a contradictory industry.

Some other celebrities such as Demi Lovato, Tyra Banks and Adam Lambert were in favor of the singer and expressed their full support. According to El Espectador, the designer Christian Siriano, who has already dressed Bebe Rexha and Leslie Jones, who had also had trouble finding a designer for an awards ceremony, offered through Twitter to dress the artist. We will see the design with which this singer will be presented at the Grammys.
