After the end of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, it was known that the universe created by George RR Martin would be expanded with various stories, which would tell the events prior to those of the original series.
Thus, it was known that there would be a first spin-off, known as The Long Night, that would deal with the white walkers and would have Naomi Watts as the protagonist. However, it ended up being canceled, according to the Tomatazos media.
However, that does not mean that there are no other stories that will be addressed, because we know that House of the Dragon is confirmed, being a story that will catch all fans of the Targaryen House.
What do we know about House of the Dragon?
House of the Dragon will be a direct adaptation of the novel Fire and Blood by George RR Martin, launched in 2018. According to La Sexta media, it will span ten episodes that will tell the events 300 years prior to what was happening in Game of Thrones, so there will be a direct familiarity with some of the most important events in the series.
Unlike what happened with The Long Night, which had already filmed a pilot before being canceled, this series is still in the early stages of development. At the moment, we know that Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik have been announced as showrunners, being the creators of some of the fan's favorite episodes, such as Hardhome or Battle of the Bastards.
At the moment, we know that the casting process for this new series is under development, where some actors are looking for leading roles for this story. According to Hobbyconsolas, there is already some information on the roles they must fulfill.
The protagonist will be Aegon Targaryen, over twenty years old. He is an introverted man, with a tough character with those who seek to challenge him. He rides the dragon Balerion, so the dragons will be present again in the story, even in a heyday (they will no longer be "extinct" beasts).

The casting also looks for Visenya Targaryen, over twenty years old. She is the older sister and wife of King Aegon Targaryen, also being of a truly strong character. In this case, she rides the dragon Vhagar.
Finally, there will also be Raenys Targaryen, over twenty years old, who will be King Aegon Targaryen's youngest sister. This woman, unlike the previous one, will have a kind character, will be curious and her personality will be mischievous. She will be in command of the Meraxes dragon.
When will this series be released?
According to what the PulpFictionCine media mentions, HBO is likely to launch this new Game of Thrones prequel in April 2021, although they are still speculating, as there is no official release date.
At the moment, there is also no estimated number of seasons to follow, but it is clear that the story will never reach the starting point of the series, but will only add more context and explanations to the events that led to the main plot of the base series, so we must see how Westeros will be represented during the reign of the Targaryen.
