Space has always fascinated human beings. The possibility of exploring new planets and even seeing if there is life beyond ours is something that impresses many people. Well, thanks to the recent launch of SpaceX, many people are "hopeful" to take these discoveries one step further.

Such is the case that the Xataka website mentions that having put two astronauts in orbit means "a giant step to return to the Moon", in addition to aspiring to a possible colonization of Mars. In this situation, we decided to review which were the science fiction works in cinema that best addressed space travel.

1. Apollo 13

This 1996 film was initially considered the "great American space movie." Directed by Ron Howard and with stellar performances by Tom Hanks and Kevin Bacon, we see quite an interesting story.

Basically, the film shows the drawbacks that the homonymous stellar mission had. It also contains the famous phrase "Houston, we have a problem", which is why it is really known in the movie buff community and in the general culture.

2. Interstellar

Cristopher Nolan's 2014 film is described by Espinof as an "ambitious emotional journey." The reasons are not superfluous: in addition to showing the universe in all its splendor, the film ventures into many complex questions about space-time.

In other words, we are talking about a science fiction movie that has a fascinating visual atmosphere, but where the narrative is also relevant. In any case, you must be prepared for plot twists, where many physics issues that you thought were impossible could perplex you.

3. First man

This 2018 movie was directed by Damien Chazelle, where he attempted to portray the life of Neil Armstrong, the man who was known to be the first human to walk on the Moon, played by actor Ryan Gosling.

According to what the specialized media Hypertextual mentions, this film is "the best space drama in cinema based on real events." There we can perceive a tension that will make our hair stand on end, showing us that venturing into space is even more complicated than it seems.

4. 2001: A Space Odyssey

Considered by many to be the best of all space movies. It could even be said that it was one of the first science fiction films in all of history, since it was released in 1968 with the direction of Stanley Kubrick.

Despite the fact that many may consider it to be "old", GQ Magazine considers it to be "the best science fiction movie of all time", as well as being one of the great works in the entire history of cinema. If you didn't see it, it's a great time to catch up.

5. Gravity

This 2013 film was directed by the Mexican Alfonso Cuarón, having the leading performances of Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, achieving a score of 7.7 out of 10, according to the IMDb website of specialized reviews.

In this film we will be able to know a heavy and overwhelming atmosphere, which perfectly portrays what happens to astronauts on the trip. Therefore, it is an incredible visual experience, which is complemented by a full and emotional story.

6. Ad Astra

This 2019 story was directed by James Gray and starred  Brad Pitt, the Hypertextual media mentions that it is an "intimate journey to the stars", since the whole plot derives from there.

In this case, we see that the entire film revolves around the possibility that, in the near future, trips to the Moon will be frequent . However, that does not mean that astronauts do not have existentialist dramas, so seeing it at this time will make us think about the personal situations of the SpaceX crew.
