Britney Spears is experiencing one of the most crucial moments of her life, as it could mean "reclaiming" her independence and career or returning from the shadows where she has been in recent years. After more than a decade of constant speculation about her, the relationship with her father, and the intermittency of her career, the singer addressed the court with a concise: "I want my life back."

The Turning Point in Spears' Career

With a meteoric rise in her career, Britney Spears became one of the most famous women in the United States and the world. Although she already had a certain trajectory from her childhood, it was in 1999 when she reached stardom with the album ... Baby One More Time. This album was followed by other great successes that made her sell millions of albums and positioned her as a superstar.

Britney Spears' fortune amounts to $ 60 million thanks to her studio albums, her tours and the exploitation of her image. However, she has no current control of her fortune as she is under the tutelage of her father James Spears. 2008 was the year that marked her career, after 10 years of great successes, the life of "the princess of pop" came to a halt due to her personal problems.

Spears, like many other young celebrities, suffered the consequences of being a celebrity. Scrutiny of her personal life and harassment by the media made her part of frequent scandals in the press. In 2006 the singer was caught driving a car with her son on her legs, an irresponsible action. In 2007, numerous paparazzi photographed her shaving her head, one of the most famous images that showed how deteriorated she was at that time. In 2008 psychiatric evaluations, hospitalization, drugs, and requests from her parents to be legal guardians paved the way for them to get control over the singer.

Framing Britney Spears, an Approach To Her Life

Although the guardianship was temporary, it has lasted for more than a decade, which is why the singer has chosen to "get rid" of it by legal means. At first, her guardianship stands out in her personal life, it must be considered that the name of Britney Spears represents a brand that sells millions of dollars around the world and that they are also under the control of the singer's father.

The documentary Framing Britney Spears shows us important episodes in the life of the pop star. Through archive material, research and interviews with different people, Spears' life as a celebrity but also as a person is reconstructed, showing the relationship with her father and the role he has played in her career. However, Spears was upset by the documentaries that were made about her life, considering that they showed more negatives than positives.

#FreeBritney

The instability of Britney Spears' personal life has permeated other spheres such as the professional one. Her scandals and the legal problem with her guardianship have not diminished her importance in the music industry, nor have they made her lose her place as "the princess of pop." On the contrary, her fans have been waiting for her career to resume. After an intermittent decade and with controlled appearances, her fans support her with the #FreeBritney movement, which has been joined by industry personalities such as Miley Cyrus and Sam Smith.

And although the documentary Framing Britney Spears has turned the movement into a trend in the last three months, the reality is that it has been present from the first moment of the singer's tutelage. To put pressure, Britney Spears has made it clear that her career will not advance until she is released from her father's control over her life and business. In August 2020, her lawyers managed to get a specialized firm to be co-tutor in the administration of the singer's assets, however, there is still a need to "get rid" of the control over her life, a request that was made in March of this year and is currently in process.

Therefore, June 23 has been a key moment, for the first time we have heard her version of the story from the voice of the singer. "I deserve to have a life, I have worked my whole life" she commented. She assured that she wants to marry and have children but that this right has been denied sinces he has an IUD that prevents it and that she has not been allowed to remove it. Britney Spears' tough speech has echoed the frequent remarks her fans have made for a decade.
