Sara José López Bueno, a Colombian athlete born in Pereira, Risaralda, was recognized by the Guinness World Record as the most successful archer in the history of the compound bow. Born on April 24, 1995, López became one of the most important athletes in non-Olympic sports in the coffee country.

López, only matched by speed skaters such as Pedro Causil, 18-time world champion, and Fabriana Arias, Queen of the Krakow World Games, is part of the select group of athletes who have given Colombia the most glory and triumphs, although in non-Olympic sports.

The first arrows

Tennis, basketball and even swimming, that was Sara López's journey before, at the age of 13, she began to practice the discipline that would take her to the top of the international sports elite.

Isaac López, her brother, was the one who opened Sara's horizon and, with his practice, instilled in his sister the love and taste for archery, a passion that today, more than 12 years later, is still latent.

Aiming for the international bullseye

The Medellín Pre-Olympic Championship in 2011 was the first of more than 150 events in which López Bueno defended the colors of his country.

Years later, with her participation in the Bolivarian Games of Trujillo and the World Games of Cali 2013, Sara made her triumphant debut in the international arena and began what would be the most successful sports career of a woman in compound archery. .

The woman from Pereira, in addition to her significant numbers at the national level, would begin to obtain a series of titles and global recognitions that would quickly put her on the radar of the World Archery, or International Archery Federation.

Numbers and records

López Bueno, from the beginning of her professional sports career, has registered very important marks and triumphs for her and her country that, little by little, have taken her to the 'Olympus' of the sports discipline.

22 gold medals, seven silver and six bronze, are the World Cup circuit medals that the Colombian archer has won. In addition, the Risaralda athlete has been on the podium of the Archery World Championship ten times. This, by obtaining eight gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

To complete, the Colombian was the third best composite female archer of the Cali 2013 World Games and the best in the tenth edition of the same contest, an event staged in Wroclaw, Poland, in 2019.

In addition to her sporting achievements, Sara has had the luxury of breaking the following Guinness Records in her discipline:

The most titles in the Women's Archery World Cup à Record of six championships obtained in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

The highest number of victories in the Archery World Cup à Record of six championships obtained in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

The highest number of points achieved in a round of women's compound archery at 144 in the Carlos Lleras Restrepo Ibagué 2015 National Games.

The highest number of points achieved in a women's compound archery round of 50 meters and 36 arrows outdoors à 356 over 360.

Currently, and for the above, Sara holds the title of the best archery archer in the world.
