Beyond the protocol acts, an interesting strategy was perceived in terms of the use of symbols and references that sought to involve and impact all groups, communities, and sectors of Colombia during the act of change of presidential command in Colombia.

Badges What was seen at the presidential inauguration?

Last August 7th was full of badges, shields, and symbols that marked an untraditional day, but that maintained the essence of a large-scale formal and elegant act. From the costumes to the speech, they were decisive in impacting the public and marking a historical event.

1. Free admission demonstrates the intention of a government closer to the citizenry, where historically excluded communities have been integrated through the participation of the general public led by 6 special guests who represent the daily life of Colombians: fishermen, peasants, street vendors, and youth leaders. In addition to this, the change in the protocol of starting the presidential speech by greeting the special guests who represent deep Colombia among the first after the international guests was a noticeable change, receiving them even before the representatives of the Judicial Power. and of the church; this is a strong message.

2. Another aspect to consider is the scenery in which the biodiversity represented in the 6 columns of the Congress of the Republic took place, which was decorated with typical leaves and flowers. Butterflies represent transformation at an ancestral and spiritual level, rebirth as well as evidence of the great natural wealth of Colombia for being one of the countries with the largest number of butterflies in the world. The interaction between past, present, and future oversaw the photographer Mauricio Vélez who, through his lens, marks a step through the recent history of Colombia, revealing moments that should not be repeated but also the idiosyncrasy and joy that it represents. to the Colombian.

3. From a rhetorical point of view, it is pertinent to highlight President Gustavo Petro's speech with a message of unity not only among Colombians but also among the Latin American peoples. The environmental issue and total peace were the central points of his speech, in addition to including temporary issues such as drug trafficking, decentralization, and social inclusion. His moderate, prudent, and consistent speech moves his electorate and reassures those who did not support him through the vote.

And what happened to Bolívar's sword?

It is evident to exalt two points of view. Some perceived it as an offense and an irreverent act by extolling a subversive past while for others it is part of the development of democracy with a group that surrenders its weapons and whose members are already part of the institutional framework; two valid readings of the country's history in the face of a painful past with deep wounds.

It should be noted that great challenges remain for the National Government, and this is evidenced by its ambitious normative agenda in which they will need not only the Government parties but also the Independents and, in the same way, generate dialogues with the Opposition.
