Our criterion for this list was to choose destinations that are not on lists of wonders or tourist destinations in Latin America, but that nevertheless have a natural or cultural value. We recommend them because they are rare landscapes in the rest of the planet and because they are not well-known enough to be crowded with tourists.

Here is our list of ten hidden destinations to travel through Latin America.

La Guajira, Colombia

Colombia has had a tourist peak in recent years. Since the signing of the peace agreement in 2016, tourism demand has increased, as many places that were previously considered dangerous are now true natural destinations.

Among the most visited Colombian destinations is the Tayrona park, in the north of the country, on the Caribbean coast. There, the mountains and the sea meet, making it the favorite destination of many tourists. However, further to the north is the department of La Guajira, which also has spectacular landscapes and is not very visited by foreigners. There, the coast is no longer jungle but desert and the salt flats and dunes also meet the sea.

Tambopata, Peru

It is a natural reserve in the southeast of Peru. We know that Machu Pichu is perhaps the destination that anyone would choose when visiting Peru due to its impressive cultural value. However, the Andean country has many more natural destinations.

The Tambopata Natural Reserve preserves the ecosystems of the subtropical jungle, besieged by gold mining. If you go. You will be able to see flora and fauna of this ecosystem in its natural habitat. The reserve also has several lagoons that are usually surrounded by the typical birds of the place.

Los Roques National Park, Venezuela

This is perhaps the most touristy of the Venezuelan destinations. However, we included it on our list because Venezuela, due to the current economic crisis, does not usually rank on the destination lists of those who visit the region.

This is neither more nor less than the largest marine park in the Caribbean. Its objective is to protect the marine ecosystem of this area, in which there are mangroves, reefs and corals. The seascape is diverse and colorful. Without a doubt this is a destination that you cannot miss.

Marble Caves, Chile

We are going to the south of the region: to Chilean Patagonia. Those who choose Chile as a destination usually want to visit the impressive Andes mountain range. However, Chile is not far behind when it comes to aquatic landscapes.

The Marble Caves are in General Carrera Lake, which connects Chile with Argentina. These caves form a beautiful color palette as they cast shadows on the movement of the water. His name, in fact, is not gratuitous.

Uyuni Salt Flats, Bolivia

We know that this is one of the most popular tourist destinations for those traveling to Bolivia. However, this small country is not usually the destination for foreigners visiting Latin America. That's right we decided to include it on our list.

The Uyuni salt flat is the largest in the world and on its edge is the tourist city of Uyuni. This causes a white desert landscape to form, like a snow dune, but made of salt. It is a spectacular place where travelers often decide to camp.

Llanganates National Park, Ecuador

It is close to the famous Cotopaxi Natural Park, so it is usually less visited than this one. The Llanganates National Park not only has landscapes as beautiful as Cotopaxi but also houses a legend: that of Atahualpa's treasure.

So if you see it, you can explore it in search of this indigenous treasure that, rumors say, rests somewhere in the Llanganates National Park.

Pulhapanzak Falls, Honduras

We needed Central American destinations. Apart from being a beautiful landscape, Puljapanzak Falls offers adventure activities for travelers. There you can relax in a natural pool while listening to the sound of the water or you can go canopy or climbing if you are a more adventurous traveler.

Although they are on a private lot, these falls are designed to welcome tourists interested in visiting them.

Fernando de Noronha National Marine Park, Brazil

It is a UNESCO natural heritage site, so it is a protected area. In addition, its inhabitants have established limits with the rest of the continent. This is why the Fernando de Norohna archipelago is an isolated, rarely visited destination.

If you are looking for some tranquility, this is the ideal destination. Its landscapes are mainly islands and virgin beaches surrounded by cliffs and hills that allow you to appreciate the view from above. Without a doubt, a lost paradise in Latin America.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve, Costa Rica

If you go to the Central American country you probably want to visit all its beaches, which are well known to tourists. But if you want to get away from the crowds of visitors, we recommend visiting the mountainous area of Costa Rica.

There you will find the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve, one of the most biodiverse areas on the continent. In addition, you will change the landscape radically, because, as its name indicates, you will feel like you are walking among clouds.

The Corn Islands, Nicaragua

Finally, a little visited beach also in Central America. You can probably enjoy these beaches to yourself. The tropical lushness of these beaches means that they are very little polluted and inhabited.

So you can take advantage if you are passing through Nicaragua to visit them and swim in its turquoise sea.
