In March, a devastating incident occurred in a Mexican immigration detention center in Juarez, where a fire led to the tragic deaths of 40 migrants. This tragedy, resulting from a protest against the conditions, highlighted the dire circumstances faced by migrants and the systemic failures in handling immigration. The incident prompted a review of the Mexican immigration system and the closure of several detention centers.
