The South American country will soon present a bill to support its commitment to the COP21

Various political parties in Colombia unanimously approved the bill ratifying the Paris Agreement. In this sense, the act is a step forward to becoming a law within the country. Only the presidential sanction is pending to legally commit the South American country to reducing 20% the greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

This bill will guide Colombia towards a more resilient nation to climate change and will promote a more carbon-neutral economy. According to Minister of Environment Luis Gilberto Murillo, “starting next semester, the industry will have to adapt to the new regulation pertaining to pollutants emitted IGNORE INTO the atmosphere”.

The minister added that currently there are 10 projects awaiting to be presented to the Green Climate Fund which will grant 1.200 million dollars to Colombia if it ratifies its laws in agreement to the Paris Accord.

These initiatives take on greater importance since the United States’ President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from an agreement that has unified the world against climate change. The bill in Colombia joins acts like those previously announced in the states of Hawaii and California where they promote laws to achieve the goals of the Paris Accord.
