This morning the race for the position of the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom was defined and Liz Truss, 47, was the winner.

Mary Elizabeth Truss was elected as the leader of the Conservative party over Rishi Sunak, the former finance minister. Truss defeated Sunak 57% to his 43%, in an election in which 180,000 members of her party participated. Although she is not very popular with the UK population, Truss will have the difficult task of leading this nation in the midst of climate, economic, and energy crises.

The British newspaper "The Guardian" estimates that Truss will have to face three main problems during her first 100 days in charge of the country: Ukraine, the energy crisis, and the Coronavirus. Although she has declared herself to be “Ukraine's greatest ally”, the increase in energy prices could soften this position, particularly considering that winter is approaching. Similarly, the second wave of COVID-19 is expected to hit England as we head into December.

Perhaps the biggest problem that Truss will face during her first days as leader of the United Kingdom is the energy crisis that affects the country. Truss has insisted on expanding alternative energy sources, but has also made her support for fracking public.  She has also insisted on the need to expand fracking in the North Sea, calling into question her commitment to the environment. In the economic sphere, the new prime minister has insisted on taking action to reduce the impact of energy rates during the first weeks of her term.
