Pakistan: Host of World Environment Day 2021

Last Monday, February 22, at the Fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5), the adviser to the Prime Minister and Minister of Climate Change of Pakistan, Malik Amin Aslam, and the executive director of the UNEP, Inger Andersen, announced that Pakistan will host World Environment Day 2021, celebrated this year on June 5 . According to the press release, the central theme of this event will be "the restoration of systems and the urgency of making peace with nature."

Likewise, this day will mark the formal launch of the United Nations Decade for the Restoration of Ecosystems 2021-2030 which aims to "prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems on all continents and oceans" in order to fight the climate change, eradicate poverty and, even, prevent mass extinction.

French government found guilty of climate inaction

Two years ago, the NGOs Greenpeace, Oxfam, Notre affaire à Tous and the Nicolas Hulot Foundation filed a lawsuit against the government of Emmanuel Macron for failure to take committed and effective actions to fight climate change. In 2018, this petition managed to collect 2.3 million signatures and on February 3 the verdict was released in which the French Government was found guilty . It should be noted that this ruling is symbolic and that the State has to pay 1 euro to each of the petitioning NGOs and that it complies with the measures they suggest to repair the damage caused so far. This process is known in the European country as "L'Affaire du siècle" (The process of the century in English).
