Ibero-American artists seem to have a significant lack of resources but the Latin Grammy scholarship tries to lend a helping hand
The pop icon Miguel Bosé presented a scholarship to Ernesto Núñez, a 22-year-old electric bass player from the Dominican Republic. The $200,000 award will go to support Núñez’s studies in contemporary writing and production over the next four years at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
“We must support this beautiful cause”, Bosé added. “We are thrilled to award our third annual Prodigy Scholarship to Ernesto Núñez who excelled among the thousands of applicants”, Manolo Díaz, Senior Vice President of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation also declared. Díaz thanked the Panamanian artist during the ceremony, “today's event underscores our commitment to nurturing the next generation of Latin music makers which without the support of Miguel Bosé would not be possible”.
The foundation previously partnered with Enrique Iglesias and Juan Luis Guerra, respectively, to provide college-level scholarships for outstanding music students.
Accepting the award, Núñez noted that “[I am] honored because I have achieved it through the rhythm that identifies my country which makes me feel that I carry my flag where I am going."
