Why does the world mourn the death of Avicii?

The death of Tim Bergling, known globally as Avicii, surprised both his followers and those who did not know of his existence. Bergling revolutionized the electronic music industry with his work. In fact, in 2013, Bergling was the winner of the MTV EMA Award for Best Electronic Artist. The 28-year-old Swedish DJ will be remembered for his great successes such as Levels, Wake me up, Hey Brother, Addicted to you, among many others.

The death of the artist has caused such a commotion that the bell-ringer of the Dom Tower church of Utrecht in the Netherlands rang the ecclesiastical bells to the rhythm of Avicii’s works. Malgosia Fiebig paid this posthumous tribute to Bergling and honored the DJ's legacy: musical genres do not compete. On the contrary, all of them can merge and show that have the same purpose. Now, we know that church bells can perform different rhythms.

Bergling became world famous in 2011 after Levels -sample of the song "Something's Got A Hold On Me" -, became a musical success that allowed him to be part of the most important music lists in the world and open his own record label called LE7ELS. That same year, the DJ became the sixth best DJ in the world. In 2013, his Levels production was nominated for the Grammy Awards for Best Dance Recording.

Beyond the music scene, Avicii was committed to social causes. In 2011, Avicii together with his manager, Ash Pournouri, created the House for Hunger foundation. The organization aimed to eradicate the world famine and was financed by concerts donated by Avicii and other artists.

In 2012, the Swede managed to position himself in the third position as the best DJ and kept the position in 2013. For 2014, Avicci occupies the sixth position again and in 2015 he felt to the seventh place.

In 2015, the artist performed at the wedding of Prince Charles Felipe of Sweden and Sofia Cristina of Sweden. This same year, the Swede made part of YouTube Rewind mixing the most listened songs of the year and a fragment of his single Broken Arrows.

In 2016, for medical and health reasons, he announced his retirement from the musical stages indefinitely.

In 2017, the artist's health was seriously affected after being diagnosed with acute pancreatitis due to excessive alcohol consumption.

Fun Fact: Tim Bergling's alias, Avicci, is based on the Buddhist term 'Avici'. In Buddhism, 'avici' means the lowest level of hell – known as the Naraka Kingdom – where sinners can be reborn.
