In England, a company named Yora began to produce food for dogs based on insects and that promises to be the most sustainable in the world

According to the company, insects could help reduce the environmental damage generated by the enormous volumes of meat used for feeding our pets.
Yora explained that insects make up 40% of the protein in the new product, which is composed of larvae of black flies bred by the company Protix in Eindhoven (Netherlands), reports El Espectador.
In addition to this, oats, potatoes, and other natural products are added to the fly larvae mixture, according to the newspaper La Vanguardia.
"Easier to digest than proteins from chicken" is the letter of introduction of the new flagship product.
The founder of the company, Tom Neish, explained in an interview for The Guardian that, after 29 attempts, "we have found the perfect combination of ingredients and we are proud of the final result".

What is the impact on the environment?
According to the World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), livestock, industrial and intensive production of meat and fish for consumption, are among the sectors that emit the most greenhouse gases, approximately 18%, after transportation.
Specifically, livestock accounts for 9% of global CO2 emissions, 37% of methane emissions and 65% of N2O emissions, reports La Vanguardia. Dogs and cats consume 20% of meat and fish globally, a quarter of the total figure.
By contrast, Tom Neish, founder of the company, said that larvae only require 2% of the earth and 4% of water to produce a kilogram of protein, so for Neish, this production generates 96% fewer emissions of greenhouse effect compared to meat or fish.
