2022, the Year of Women in Football
Starting with the final of the European Championship that crowned England as the winner, over Germany 2-1 in a historic final of the Women's Euro Cup that was played at Wembley in London.

Of these teams, several players stood out:
The first is English striker Beth Mead and German player Alexandra Popp. On the one hand, Popp was already beginning to sound like the second soccer player (not only in the women's soccer category but soccer that has been led by men in the past) after Frenchman Michel Plarini scored in all Eurocup matches.
For her part, Mead was looking to equal the record of seven goals for England in a single Euro Cup set by Alan Shearer in 1996.

Women's soccer has already enjoyed a drastic increase in popularity for a few years, in fact breaking several attendance records, with coverage on television, radio, and the Internet that attracted millions.

Caroline Seger (Sweden)
This player started in Sweden in 2005, and later that year she went to the first of five women's European Championships. During her fifth, in 2022, she was ranked among the top ten all-time cap winners worldwide, before her team often was knocked out in the semifinals.
Sherida Spitse (Netherlands)
Thanks to Spitse the Netherlands reached the 2019 World Cup final and, after missing the 2021 Olympics with an inan jury, played in her sixth major tournament at the 2022 women's EURO.
The final filled Wembley Stadium's 87,192-seat capacity, the largest assistance for a European Championship final -female or male- in history.
The 2020 men's final at Wembley between England and Italy was restricted by the covid pandemic and then reached 67,173 spectators.
Before the final, the total attendance of 487,683 had already surpassed the record for a women's European championship, which was 240,055.
However, we cannot ignore the World Cup in Qatar and the participation of women
like the referees Yoshimi Yamashita, the French Stephanie Frappart, and the Rwandan Salima Mukansanga who were selected to officiate matches at the Qatar World Cup, the first time that a woman will be in charge of a game in a tournament of this magnitude.
They are part of a list of 36 referees selected for Qatar; the rest are men. FIFA has also named three female assistants in a list of 69: Neuza Back, from Brazil; Karen Díaz Medina, from Mexico, and Kathryn Nesbitt, from the United States.
