Gerard Houllier dies
Gerard Houllier, a former Liverpool manager from 1998 to 2004, died this week at 73. Houllierd had managed to win five major trophies, including an FA CUP, a European Cup, a European Super Cup, a League Cup and a Community Shield with the Reds. The French technician had recently undergone an aortic operation.

The Chinese Super League introduces a salary cap
Bad news for professional players who decided to travel to the Asian giant looking for more lucrative contracts, the Chinese Super League has introduced a new salary cap. According to its new rules, the new limit would be 3 million euros per year for foreign players and 630,000 for local players. Any attempt to break this rule could result in a two-year ban for the players involved, which could be enforced globally.

Giannis Antetokounmpo signs the biggest contract in NBA history
The "Greek Freak" as he is known in the franchise signed this week a 5-year extension contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. It would be the largest contract in the history of the League, with a value of 228.2 million dollars. The 2-time MVP is one of the best players in the NBA right now and although he was pretended by the biggest teams, he decided to stay loyal to his starting club.

Cleveland baseball team to stop calling itself Indians
On Monday the organization issued a statement in which it clarifies they will be looking for a new name that is not based on Native American culture. According to the statement, the change is intended to improve relations between the organization and the underrepresented members of this community who have been affected by the name. This is not the first name change an American team has made this year, some sports organizations are promoting inclusivity (readers will remember the ex-Washington Redskins).

Nickelodeon to stream NFL WildCard game
The children's television network will broadcast an NFL game that will be a little different than what we are used to watch. It is scheduled for January 10th and will include fun changes like digitally overlaid “slime” in the end zones and different visual filters when shown to players, such as googly eyes. There will also be an appearance on the SpongeBob halftime show.
