Inter Miami announced this Friday the signing of Luis Suárez, who upon his arrival in the MLS will reunite with his friend Leo Messi after shining together at Barcelona. The Uruguayan attacker, 36, will also reunite in Florida with two other illustrious former teammates from the Spanish club: Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Suárez, who recently returned to the Uruguayan team, will thus compete in the US in 2024, the year in which the country of stars and stripes will organize the Copa América.

"Welcome Luis Suárez to the Miami dream," wrote the team in pink on their official X account to welcome the striker after weeks in which his incorporation had been practically taken for granted.

Suárez's contract with his new team will be for one year.

Inter Miami, which has David Beckham among its owners, accompanied the announcement with a photo of four children sitting backward with the numbers 9 (Suárez), 10 (Messi), 18 (Jordi Alba), and 5 (Sergio), and next message: "Nothing more beautiful than playing with friends."

"I am very happy and excited to take on this new challenge with Inter Miami," Suárez said in a statement.

"I am prepared to work and make the dream of winning more titles with this great club a reality. I am optimistic about what we can achieve together with our shared ambition," added the forward, who also said that he is "very eager" to meet. with "great friends and players" in the team led by Argentine coach Gerardo 'Tata' Martino.

Inter Miami's X account was published shortly after the first images of Suárez wearing the pink shirt with the number 9.

For his part, Beckham assured that they are "delighted" that a player of Suárez's "quality and passion" arrives at the Herons club.

"He joins a squad that is inspiring the next generation and we are looking forward to seeing him on the field with both his former teammates and the young players in our Academy," added the former British player.

Suárez and Messi, without forgetting the Brazilian Neymar, formed a lethal trident in Barcelona that was proclaimed champion of the Champions League and the Club World Cup in the 2014-2015 season.

"The gunslinger" played for the Blaugrana team for six seasons (2014-2020) during which he scored 197 goals and gave 100 assists as one of Messi's preferred partners.

In addition to the Champions League with Barcelona, Suárez's extensive and splendid record includes, among other trophies, a FIFA Club World Cup, five La Liga titles, and a Copa América.

Inter Miami is the new stage for Suárez who has already dazzled with his scoring instinct in other clubs such as Nacional, Ajax, Liverpool, and Atlético de Madrid.

Suárez played last season for the Brazilian Gremio, where he scored 29 goals in 54 games.

He also arrives at an MLS in which there are numerous outstanding Uruguayan players such as Diego Rossi (from the current champion Columbus Crew), Facundo Torres (Orlando City), César Araujo (Orlando City), Martín Cáceres (LA Galaxy), Diego Fagúndez (LA Galaxy ), Gastón Brugman (LA Galaxy), Santiago Rodríguez (New York City) and Cristian Olivera (Los Angeles FC).

Messi landed at Inter Miami this summer and, with the help of fellow newcomers Busquets and Alba, won the first title in history for the Florida team with the Leagues Cup.
