Roland Garros, also known as the French Open, is one of the most important events in tennis. The first women's edition of it was held in 1897 six years after the first edition of the men's tournament. To celebrate the last days of this competition, we decided to review the women who have won this important event the most.
Chris Evert – 7 titles
Considered one of the best tennis players in all history. American Chris Evert not only has the highest number of victories at Roland Garros since it was an open (1925), but also since its founding . Evert won in 1974, 1975, 1979, 1980, 1983, 1985, and 1986. She was one of the first tennis players to apply the two-handed backhand, which became the professional standard.

Steffi Graf – 6 titles
This German player is frequently considered, behind Serena Williams, as the best tennis player in history . In his 17-year professional career, he spent 377 weeks at number 1 in the world. This is a record that no one, neither man nor woman, has been able to repeat. Steffi won the French Open in 1987, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1999 and 1988. In this last year, she also won all four Grand Slams and an Olympic gold medal .
Hoy se cumplen 30 años de una de las mayores gestas realizadas por un tenista.

Justine Henin – 4 titles
Belgian Justine Henin is the youngest player on this list. In her nearly 12-year career, she stayed at No. 1 for 117 weeks. Justine won 7 Grand Slams as a tennis player, of which 4 were at Roland Garros (2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007). Tennis historians consider her one of the most athletic competitors, who stood out for her physical and mental strength . The one-handed backhand was his most prominent hit.
Serena Williams, Margaret Court, Arantxa Sánchez and Mónica Seles-3 titles
After the first three players, there is a quadruple tie in this ranking, which includes Margaret Court, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, Mónica Seles and Serena Williams . All these tennis players achieved 3 titles in the French Open. However, Williams is the only one still active and that's why we decided to mention her specifically.
What can you say about Williams that is no longer known? The American is, in the eyes of many, the best tennis player that has ever existed in history. With 23 Grand Slam titles, only one woman, Margaret Court, beats her in this regard . Serena won the French Open in 2002, 2013 and 2015. This year she had an early exit from the event. Will we see her lift the title again one day?
