This was not a coincidence, considering that Córdoba not only had already held positions in the Comptroller General, but has been in other positions of equal or greater importance. These have come thanks to his good personal relationships with politicians of all tendencies, colors and parties, both in the regions and at the national level.

Who is the new Comptroller?

"Of the new comptroller, Carlos Felipe Córdoba, there is no politician who talks badly about him, his career of accelerated ascent has been advancing at the rhythm of the changes of power, he has known how to move: he has managed to surround himself, to enter and to get well, to reach agreements, to avoid conflicts and touch new doors," La Silla Vacía described.

Córdoba is a professional in government and international relations at Externado University of Colombia, a specialist in senior management at the Libre University of Pereira, Colombia, and a magister in political action, institutional strengthening and citizen participation at the Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid, Spain.

During his career he has held the following positions: Secretary of Government of the city of Pereira (2004-2007), Private Secretary of the Government of the Department of Risaralda (2008), Deputy Comptroller General of the Republic, Comptroller General in Charge (2010-2012), Auditor General of the Republic (2015-2017) and Executive Director of the National Federation of Departments. From the latter came to apply and now serve as Comptroller General of the Nation.

In addition, Córdoba is a person who has been very close to the most influential men in Colombian politics in recent years. According to La Silla Vacía, the current Comptroller was part of the youths who campaigned for Álvaro Uribe Vélez in the regions, in order to take him to the presidency for the first time in 2002. He was later named Coordinator of Social Projection in the presidential program Colombia Joven, already with Uribe in the presidency.

Córdoba is also a personal friend of the former vice president and former presidential candidate, Germán Vargas Lleras, and was part of his campaign for the presidency since the end of 2017. He also worked on the campaign of former President Juan Manuel Santos, in 2010.

The challenges of the new Comptroller

"The pulse lived in the congress resulted in a block of parties that, if declared in independence, could complicate the governance of Iván Duque," said Caracol News on its website, after Córdoba's election.

Precisely, apart from its logical mission to fight against corruption and protect public resources, the Comptroller must demonstrate that his election will have the ability to fight against mafias, cartels and contractors that in all regions of the country appropriate the public resources.

"The challenge you have is the one that we all Colombians want, and that is the defeat of corruption and the transformation of politics. Topics such as direct contracting have had significant abuses that have been lent to public entities to serve mafias that ruin the State," indicated the president Iván Duque during the possession of Cordova, on September 3.

The management of Carlos Felipe Córdoba in the Comptroller's Office will depend on his ability to distance himself from his personal relationships and assume with conviction the task of fighting head-on against corruption.
