A court-approved conservatorship is “typically used to protect the elderly, the mentally disabled or the extremely ill.”

When it was put in place, the conservatorship was meant to be temporary, but the fact that it’s gone on so long has made fans question who is benefiting from it. While it’s not clear what the entirety of Britney’s conservatorship entails, fans know that it means her dad Jamie "has been in charge of her assets, money, decisions, and even visitors," reports Wesh.

Then adds, "Fans have continued to rally behind Britney with the #FreeBritney movement demanding that she gets full control and say of her life."

But Jamie, who has denied allegations that he unfairly controls his daughter, has openly called the movement “a joke” and a “conspiracy theory” to outlets like Page Six.

A few months ago, Britney made a movie to distance her father from her conservatorship seemingly. According to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Britney has nominated a trusted company to take over as her conservator.

She reportedly suggested that solution because she was “strongly opposed” to her father resuming his duties as her sole conservator. The documents did describe the conservatorship as “voluntary,” so no one is forcing her into it.

But it says that Britney now “wishes to exercise her right to nominate a conservator of the estate on her own," according to Clevver News.

On top of all of this, TMZ reported that Britney’s lawyers filed documents opposing her dad’s motions to seal parts of her ongoing conservatorship case. In August, Britney’s dad had a judge grant a motion to close a hearing and transcripts from her conservatorship case.

However, Britney and her lawyers are fighting this because they supposedly want everyone to know what’s going on, and there’s no reason to hide it. Britney argued that there are no medical issues or sensitive issues with her children to protect, so future hearings don’t have to be shielded from the public.

In the new documents, her lawyer said, “Britney herself is vehemently opposed to this effort by her father to keep her legal struggle hidden away in the closet as a family secret. Far from being a conspiracy theory or a ‘joke’ as James reportedly told the media, in large part, this scrutiny is a good and even predictable result of James’ aggressive use of the sealing procedure over the years to minimize the amount of meaningful information made available to the public.”

Along with the legal documents, TMX reported that Britney’s lawyers even attached an article about the #FreeBritney movement and said she’s trying to get some personal autonomy back in her life.

They said that Britney “welcomes and appreciates the informed supported of her many fans,” and since the news of these new documents broke, fans have taken to social media to show their support for the pop princess.

Not only her dad, but her mom is in a legal battle, fighting over money instead of the benefit of their daughter. Although Britney lost the case, her lawyers and fans will keep supporting her to recover her independence.
