These Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, like all the others, have left us open-mouthed with inspiring, surprising, infuriating, and touching stories. That is why in this new edition, LatinAmerican Post wants to show you more surprising moments that we have seen in these Olympic Games.
The shared medal
In the men's high jump final, a truly unprecedented moment happened. Italy's Gianmarco Tamberi and Qatar's Mutaz Barshim came in first place after several hours of competition on Sunday. The two athletes, who are good friends, were given the option to work things out with a tiebreaker. However, Barhsim had a better idea: to share the medal. This is how both went with a gold medal and strengthened their friendship in the eyes of the world.

Djokovic was eliminated from the finals
Novak Djokovic, who was going to get a Golden Slam (the four tennis majors and the gold medal in one year) was eliminated in the semifinals by the German Alexander Zverev. Zverev beat the favorite 1-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Simone Biles won the bronze medal
After having withdrawn from various events for mental health reasons, American gymnast Simone Biles returned to participate in the balance beam. In this event, she got the bronze medal. Her return came as a surprise to those who thought she would not continue competing in this Olympics.

The Norwegian “flash” broke an all-time record
Athlete Karsten Warholm broke the record in the 400m hurdles in one of the best races in the event's history. The three medal winners placed in the three fastest times in the event's history. Warholm's time was faster than 23 other Olympians who ran the 400m heats without hurdles.
