Nacional and Millionarios: The Economic Benefits of Being a Colombian Soccer Champion

CONMEBOL Award

As of 2022, CONMEBOL decided to award an economic prize to each club that is champion of the tournaments of the countries affiliated with this confederation. This economic incentive is 500,000 dollars, money that a single team or two maximum in Colombia can receive, due to the type of competition that is stipulated.

Superliga

Being champion of Colombian soccer guarantees participation in the Superliga and the possibility of winning a minimum of 250 million pesos. In case of winning the title, the team will be able to pocket 500 million pesos, this without counting what the club can generate at the box office, approximately this figure could reach 3 billion.

Final of the League

Due to the Colombian championship system, when qualifying for the final, the teams have one more home game from which they can make a profit at the box office, because for this type of game the tickets have a higher price and the capacity is usually full. Consequently, the finalist clubs would generate 5 billion Colombian pesos from ticket sales if the capacity is completely filled.
