North Korea: actions against the new sanctions imposed by the UN
The government described these actions as “an act of war that destroys the peace and stability of the region”
Throughout 2017, North Korea has conducted seven nuclear tests, which have shown that the State, thanks to its weapons, could attack various territories in the West. In response, the United Nations has imposed economic and military sanctions. However, this has not been an impediment for Korea to continue showing the world its military power.
Sanctions against North Korea
The last nuclear test carried out by North Korea was in September at the Punggye-ri test site, which generated an earthquake of a 6.3 magnitude. This test triggered alerts within the international community since official statements affirmed that hydrogen bomb was the weapon tested.
The Security Council of the United Nations imposed sanctions on North Korea. However, on November 29th, North Korea, in a threatening manner, launched an intercontinental ballistic missile, which seemed to have forced the United States to impose additional sanctions in the energy, export, and import sector. This economic punishment was accepted by the Security Council.
North Korea’s response
In response to the United States proposal and the approval of the sanctions, the government of North Korea described these actions as “an act of war that destroys the peace and stability of the region”, as these sanctions lead to a total economic block.
Additionally, they stated that it is a violation of the sovereignty of the State and that they will continue with their nuclear production as a sign of a defensive strategy against what the United States can do to them. Even the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it will cause the United States the greatest pain and suffering it has experienced.
