Last Sunday, the American Music Awards took place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California. These awards are given to the greatest names of music made in the United States. Since this is a country that is increasingly Latin American and in which the population that speaks Spanish is growing, it is not a surprise that among the winners there are artists who sing in Spanish and English and are of Latin descent. These were the three Latin winners.

J Balvin

The singer from Medellín won the award for favorite Latin artist. It was to be expected, given that reggaeton has already taken all the musical awards there have existed. J Balvin has been doing music for several years now and in these last 3 years, he has gained immense worldwide recognition. He is not only one of the most important artists of his genre, but he is one of the leaders in the world music scene.

In addition to receiving his award, J Balvin sang on stage and took the opportunity to respond to those who criticize him for not expressing himself about the situation that Colombia is currently going through, to which the artist responded that "he's not left-wing or from right" He did not, on the other hand, make any reference to the Colombian national strike.

Cardi B

The New Yorker of Dominican descent won the favorite Hip-hop / rap artist award. This genre, very American, has also become very Latin American because the neighborhood life of the immigrant and the Latino in the United States has many points in common with the neighborhood that would have previously inspired the birth of this genre.

Cardi B is no exception and has become relevant within the genre in recent years. The rapper was born and raised in the Bronx, one of the most important neighborhoods for the rap genre, where she first worked as a stripper and then opened a career as a rapper.
