On February 24, 2022, the world witnessed the military invasion of Ukraine by one of the most influential and numerous armies in the world. What Russian President Vladimir Putin called a "special operation" was intended to expressly control Kyiv, overthrow Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, place a government allied to Moscow and end the accession of Ukraine's eastern territories.

This conflict results from several years of internal warfare between the profuse factions that control much of Russia's neighboring states and the pro-European Ukrainians. Precisely, groups from the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics have been part of the conflict with Russia's implicit and explicit support.

Vladimir Putin recently announced Russia's withdrawal from the START III pact, which could mean an increase in nuclear weapons. Generate anxiety on the international scene, especially in the European neighbors and former republics of the USSR, due to the nationalist and expansionist discourse replicated in recent years.
