Why is sugar so bad?

According to the WHO, the consumption of sugar, for example in sugary drinks, increases the possibility of obesity, cavities and type 2 diabetes. Sugar can also cause the appearance of high blood pressure, asthma, sleep disorders, and liver disease.

In addition to producing this type of diseases, psychological ailments such as depression, social isolation, and low self-esteem can develop. The caloric content provided by foods with added sugar, such as soft drinks, are empty calories with little nutritional value.

It is for this reason that " in adults as in children, WHO recommends reducing the intake of free sugars to less than 10% of total energy intake".
