The 2022 Billboard Music Awards were held on May 15, 2022, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The ceremony is very influential since the Billboard charts have been the go-to guide for ranking the most popular songs, artists, and albums for decades. Between the most memorable moments of the night, Mary J. Blige was honored with a 2022 Icon Award given by Janet Jackson. The 51-year-old singer talked about how hard she has worked to be considered an icon. During her acceptance speech, Blige said, "what an icon means to me is overcoming obstacles to accomplish the unthinkable and being widely admired for having influenced over many people."
On the other hand, Olivia Rodrigo and Doja Cat were the night's big winners. Rodrigo, the 19-year-old Disney star, has been topping the music charts since the release of her hit "Drivers License," whose popularity has been insane. Then, after dropping off her debut album "Sour" on May 21, 2021, Olivia became one of the most influential and famous singers of this generation. Olivia took home seven Billboard Music Award wins: Top New Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Tops Streaming Songs Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Billboard Global 200 Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Album.
Another female artist who ranks high on the music charts is Doja Cat. The rapper won four awards: Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Female Artist, Top R&B Album for "Planet Her," and Top Viral Song for her hit featuring SZA, "Kiss Me More." Taylor Swift took home the awards for Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Country Artist, Top Country Female Artist, and Top Country Album for "Red (Taylor's Version)." Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion beat Cardi B and Latto and took home the Top Rap Female Artist statuette.

Another pleasant surprise for fans was the two wins of Kali Uchis, who took home the awards for Top Latin Female Artist and Top Latin Song for "telepatía." Another Latina that left her mark on the awards was the Colombian singer Karol G, who won Top Latin Album for "KG0516."
Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa were other familiar names in the industry that had their moment to shine. Gaga won Top Dance/Electronic Artist. Meanwhile, Dua won Top Radio Song for "Levitating" and Top Dance/Electronic Song for "Cold Heart – PNAU Remix" with Elton John.
Once again, women artists dominated the main categories in one of the most prestigious ceremonies for the music industry in different genres, from pop to hip-hop and country music.
