These are the five most anticipated films of 2018

With the 2018 film calendar only in its initial stages, it is worth reviewing which Hollywood productions will attract the most attention from viewers this year

These are the five most anticipated films of 2018

With nearly $1.3 billion US dollars in revenue and a budget of $200 million, Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi was last year’s top box office movie. Secondly, raising $1.264 billion, was Beauty and the Beast’s live-action remake. This year has several films on the table that can easily break the billion-dollar barrier, particularly feature films about superheroes, dinosaurs and deadly heroines, three fixed bets that Hollywood has always had between the eyebrows when they want to pop the box office windows of cinemas around the world.

Which films are anticipated to do best in the box office in the coming months?

Red Sparrow (release date: March 2nd)

Two time Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence embodies a lethal and seductive Russian spy in Red Sparrow, a thriller directed by Francis Lawrence based on the book by Jason Matthews. The film tells the story of a deadly and sexy Russian spy who watches her goals cut short when she meets a CIA agent, played by Joel Edgerton, which forces her to consider becoming a double agent.

Tomb Raider (release date: March 16th)

The starring role of adventurer Lara Croft will be played by Sweden’s sweetheart Alicia Vikander, winner of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl. Tomb Raider is directed by the little-known Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthag, and is inspired by the remake of the homonymous video game produced by Square Enix. The aim of this film is to show the origin of how Lara Croft becomes the famous adventurer, but showing her as a real human being, with virtues and frailties, flesh and blood, and not as a superheroine.

Avengers: Infinity War (release date: April 27th)

The end of Captain America: Civil War, in which the Avengers separate, taking Iron Man and Captain America as leaders of the sides, connects directly with Avengers: Infinity War. The team will have to meet new allies (Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy) to prevent Thanos from getting the Gems of Infinity, who, from what we could see in the trailer, has two in his glove and a third seems to be being extracted from Vision.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (release date: June 8th)

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a continuation of the Jurassic World reboot, a restart of the Jurassic Park franchise made by director Colin Trevorrow in 2015. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard resume their roles as Owen and Claire, this time to return to Nublar Island and try to save the dinosaurs from the imminent destruction of the island.

Ocean’s 8 (release date: June 22nd)

Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) begins by explaining her case to a parole board, saying that if she is released, she only wants “a simple life”, but for her, like her lost brother Danny Ocean (George Clooney), simple life is a five-star-theft existence. Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchet, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, and Awkwafina star in this film, which features a luxury casting of pure female talent.
