Wonder Woman: Today’s new trend
The unique influence of music, movies, and comics helps explore new frontiers in the world of fashion
Gal Gadot is the new powerful Wonder Woman who embodies an Amazonian super hero in the latest Warner Bros movie. Both the actress and the heroine have come to update fashion trends worldwide with superhero boots, stars and stripes, tiaras, and bracelets. Wonder Woman comes ready to become the muse for this summer, not just because of her image but also for her never-ending desire to better the planet.
The courage and strength of the warrior has inspired thousands of women around the world. She even became an honorary ambassador of the United Nations. Valentino was inspired by her for his pre-fall collection, Gwyneth Paltrow launched a clothes’ line in her honor, and brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Gareth Pugh, and Alexandre Vauthier dedicated a few minutes to the heroine during their runway shows.
Even Kim Kardashian and Alicia Vikander succumbed to the look.
The Colombian jewelry designer Mercedes Salazar also joined this cause of female empowerment. Salazar decided to design bracelets inspired on the jewelry worn by the heroine which Wonder Woman used to deflect bullets, projectiles, and deadly rays. The objective of the project is to empower women from Latin America with accessories made by artisans from all over region. The designer allied herself with others from Nazareth, Guajira, Colombia, in order to add an extra cultural value to the iconic ‘shields’ of the legend.
Today’s women are empowered by the acknowledgement that they are capable of facing diversity. No doubt that a woman’s super power is being strong and independent but meanwhile, they are also appropriating their strength without forgetting their femininity and tenderness.
Even though this fashion concept isn’t completely new – back in 2009, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé masked themselves as Wonder Woman in the video clip “Telephone”. Years later, Katy Perry also appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair dressed as the heroine-, thanks to the movie people are intrigued and seem to be willing to explore everything this leading lady has to offer, including her signature fashion choices.
