In 2021, technology helped us endure the scourge of the pandemic. These are the 5 that stood out the most this year.

Messenger RNA vaccines

The most important technology for humanity this year was, without a doubt, messenger RNA vaccines. These vaccines, unlike normal vaccines, do not inject the "killed" virus into the body. Instead, they teach our cells to make a protein that triggers the immune response of our bodies. The result is a safer vaccine with fewer side effects. For many, names like Moderna and Pfizer brought great relief after nearly a year of fear and anxiety.

TikTok

Although it became more popular than anything at the end of 2019 and during 2020, the Chinese social network Tik Tok consolidated in 2021 as a serious rival to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This year TikTok reached 1 billion users, and its popularity did not go unnoticed. So much so that the other major video platforms, such as YouTube, copied his Shorts model. Today, it is difficult to imagine a brand that does not have its own Tik Tok account, just as they do on their other social networks.

OnlyFans

Do you remember the Only Fans crisis? In August this year, the content subscription service announced that it was banning sexually explicit content, to "ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform and continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans." After a week of criticism from their own users, the creators of Only Fans reversed that decision. It may seem weird, but a lot of people ended up depending on the platform for their source of income, so it's a good thing that the creators of Only Fans listened to their complaints.

NFT

NFTs or non-fungible tokens were everywhere this year. These are unique digital assets based on blockchain technology, which have a divided reputation on the networks. Although their supporters see them as the future of digital art and work for artists, their detractors see in them another empty promise, another pyramid scam that is sold under the guise of futuristic technology. The truth is that the money did move this year. For example, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey recently sold his first tweet for $ 2.5 million as an NFT.
